This Sunday, we meet at The Oakwood at 10.30am as usual, but our Service will have a focus on our partnership with ‘Taking Ground’.

What is Taking Ground?

Taking Ground is a network of Churches, that are all located in the North East of England. We work together to support and encourage one another, as we all work to take ground for the Kingdom of God, here in the North East.

The Churches are:

  • Collective Church – York
  • Easingwold Community Church (Easingwold, near York)
  • Middlesbrough Community Church
  • Hexham Community Church
  • Birtley Community Church (Birtley, near Hexham)
  • Durham Community Church
  • Tees Valley Community Church (us!)

Tell me about this Sunday

This Sunday, each church within the Taking Ground Network will meet at their own usual place, but will all enjoy some resources that have been created for us as a network. There will be a number of video communications and updates, that will help us all to be informed and connected together.

We have also scattered our Taking Ground leaders across the Churches – so we will see some different faces on our stage, helping to facilitate our service and some of our leaders will be out encouraging other Taking Ground Churches.

We are excited to gather in this slightly different way and to enjoy the unity and blessing that this partnership brings.

Our offering this week will go to further the work of the Taking Ground network.

Let’s introduce you…

Ray and Sylvia Mills will be leading our service this week. Ray and Sylvia are part of our leadership team here at TVC Church and they are regular faces to our Sunday morning gatherings at The Oakwood.

Will and Elyse Horner will be joining us from Collective Church, York to lead us in worship. Will grew up at TVC Church and Elyse grew up in Canada. Will and Elyse have a passion for songwriting and are part of Taking Ground Music – who have been writing new songs for us recently.

Neil Strike will be joining us from Hexham Community Church and he will be speaking to us this week. Neil is from Teeside and used to be a member of our leadership team at TVC Church, before going up to Hexham to lead the Church there. He is an avid Boro supporter and brings with him his lovely wife Elaine.

We look forward to seeing you at The Oakwood this Sunday from 10.30am as we gather to worship.

Who else is out and about?

Some of the leaders who regularly serve at TVC Church, will be going out to bless other Taking Ground Churches this week.

  • Martin & Lynda Dunkley will be leading the service at Hexham Community Church and Mike Beaumont will be preaching.
  • Matt Biddlecombe will be preaching at Collective Church in York and Pete Glasby will be leading worship.
  • Matt and Abi Horner will be leading worship at Middlesbrough Community Church.
  • Ste Mac will be preaching at Birtley Community Church and Valencia Khumalo will be leading worship there.
  • Darren Scott is heading to Durham Community Church to lead worship.
  • Tony Grey is preaching at Easingwold Community Church.

They will of course be joined by others from across the Taking Ground network, as we encourage one another and worship together.
