“Beyond Our Reach” is our theme for this week of prayer and fasting.
God has placed something on our hearts for this church, for our families, and for our region. It is bigger than anything we can do on our own.
This is bigger than us. And that is exactly where faith begins. That is good news!
When we pray, we trust a God who can do more than we could ever ask or imagine. This week, we are asking everyone across TVC Church to pause and pray for the things that feel beyond us, but are never beyond Him.
You can watch Martin’s video below, where he shares more about the heart behind this week.
As well as daily prayer themes, we want to call the church to pray into three specific areas of breakthrough.
There will be daily themes and opportunities to pray together, both online and in person at The Oakwood Centre. We are praying boldly for provision, growth and many more people to come to faith in Jesus.
We’ll begin with a launch prayer meeting on Sunday 1 March from 7–8pm at The Oakwood Centre. From Monday, there will be daily prayer gatherings online at 7am and 7pm, and in person at 7pm each evening. Come on your own or with your community group.
You’ll find the Zoom links in your emails each morning, ready for you when you wake up. We’d love you to join us as we set this week apart to seek God together.
Here’s a simple explanation of what fasting means and why we practise it.
Fasting in the Bible means choosing to go without food for a set time and for a clear purpose. It is a spiritual discipline we see throughout Scripture. When Jesus walked the earth, fasting was a normal part of His rhythm of prayer.
In Acts 13:2-3 we read that while the church was worshipping and fasting, the Holy Spirit spoke and gave direction. After they fasted and prayed, they laid hands on Barnabas and Saul and sent them out.
Fasting gives more space for prayer. The time you would normally spend eating can become time spent with God. In the Bible, fasting is always connected with prayer.
Fasting helps us pray with focus and intention. It is a way of saying to God, this matters. You are choosing to make space and make a sacrifice. God honours sincere hearts and prayers made in faith.
Fasting strengthens us spiritually. It is one of the tools God gives us when we face opposition, discouragement or distraction. Throughout history, God has used united prayer and fasting to bring clarity, breakthrough and renewed faith.
Fasting does not earn an answer to prayer. We cannot manipulate God. He answers prayer because of His grace, not our effort. Fasting prepares our hearts to hear Him and receive from Him.
Only fast if your health allows it. If a full fast is not right for you, choose a partial fast instead. Do what you can in faith. God sees your heart.
Partial fast (recommended for most people) – This might mean fasting for part of a day or missing one meal, such as breakfast, lunch or tea.
Complete fast – No food, only water. If you are new to fasting, it is wise to start with a partial fast.
Liquid fast – No solid food; liquids such as smoothies, fresh juices or soup are allowed.
If fasting is new to you, start small. Give it a try. It is not a requirement, but it is a gift, a simple way to draw closer to God and make space for Him to move.
