Mike Beaumont continues our Life in His Name series with a message on The Cost from John 15:18–16:6.
As Jesus prepares his disciples for what lies ahead, he gives them an honest warning. Following him will not always be easy.
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”
Jesus explains that those who follow him are in the world but no longer belong to it. As a result, we will often see life differently and live by different values.
Jesus reminds his followers that no servant is greater than their master. If he faced rejection, they should not be surprised when they do too.
Yet Jesus doesn’t tell his followers this to discourage them. He wants them to be prepared, so that when opposition comes, they are not caught off guard.
And as he gives this warning, he also reminds them that help is coming through the Holy Spirit.
Watch as we explore what it means to stay faithful to Jesus when following him comes at a cost.
