Matt Horner continues our Life in His Name series with a message on The Confidence from John 16:16-33.
As Jesus continues preparing his disciples for what lies ahead, he knows they are struggling to understand what he means when he talks about going away and coming back.
“Your grief will turn to joy.”
Although the disciples are about to experience deep sorrow, that sorrow will not last forever.
Looking ahead to the cross and resurrection, Jesus gives them confidence that God can bring joy out of even the darkest circumstances.
He also reminds them that because of what he is about to accomplish, they will be able to come confidently to the Father in prayer, asking for what they need.
But Jesus is honest about the road ahead. Trouble and hardship will come. Yet his final words are full of hope:
“Take heart! I have overcome the world.”
As we face our own challenges, disappointments and uncertainties, Jesus offers a confidence that is rooted not in our circumstances, but in him.
Watch as we explore how Jesus gives us confidence in the midst of pain, prayer and trouble.
