Next Thursday, our Friends at Cornerstone Adoption and Fostering services are holding an event at The Oakwood Centre and they would like to invite us all to attend!
Cornerstone is an Independent Fostering and Post Adoption Support Agency operating from Leicester up to Newcastle. They specialise in offering ‘permanent‘ homes to children in the care of Local Authorities. They are the only Christian Fostering Agency in the UK. Spurred on by faith, they are an agency that is committed to creating forever families for children, especially those that are hard to place.
Cornerstone is an organisation that is close to the heart of many of us at TVC Church and we have a number of families that are part of Cornerstone. Mike Horner, one of our TVC Church family, shared with us his story of God moving his heart to adoption. Mike and his wife Gill have a blended family, with children from previous marriages, two children of their own and children who joined their family through adoption.
“Fostering and adoption never entered our minds when Gill and I got married and we could easily have disqualified ourselves. The reality was that I had a lot to learn about being a good father to my children and I am still learning. However, when God calls, he equips. We haven’t been perfect parents by any means, but with God’s help we have learned and developed ourselves as parents. Through God’s grace and the support of Cornerstone, we have succeeded in helping all our children progress to responsible adulthood. They all have a part to play in the family, and a contribution to make to each other and in the wider community.”
