What does Jesus clearing the temple show us today?

In this sixth session of our year-long series on the Gospel of John, Life in His Name, Matt Horner looks at John 2:1-12 and the moment Jesus clears the temple.

The courtyard meant for prayer had turned into a market. Jesus steps in and restores it to what it was meant to be. The leaders ask for a sign, but the real sign is his own death and resurrection, which the disciples only understand later.

The message for us is simple. Jesus does not just tidy the surface. He clears out what gets in the way of a real relationship with God. He invites us to let go of anything lifeless and make room for the new life he brings.
