Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. (Exodus 14:15-16)
It’s not hard to imagine the excitement the Israelites felt as they saw Pharaoh defeated by the ten plagues and Moses then leading them out of slavery. But their excitement was short-lived, as Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued his escaping slaves with his army. And then they found themselves trapped between that army behind them and a body of water in front of them. Things were just getting worse.
But that’s when God stepped in again. He told Moses to stretch out his hand over the water, a sign of God himself stretching out his hand in heaven. And as Moses did so, the impossible became possible: the water divided, the Israelites passed through it, and the Egyptians drowned as the waters returned. God’s people were free.
So where do you feel trapped today? Ask God to stretch out his hand to make the impossible possible.
ME – Pray for any area where you or your family members feel trapped or locked up and ask God to ‘part the waters’ for you.

OTHERS – Pray for an area of Teesside that you know well. Many are challenged by brokenness, poverty and unemployment. We need God to bring people out of those bondages.
