Pete Conroy shares a special Baptism Sunday message titled The Road to Freedom from Luke 24.

As two followers of Jesus walk along the road to Emmaus, they are confused, disappointed and unsure what to make of all that has happened.

But Jesus meets them on the road.

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?”

As Jesus opens up the Scriptures, their eyes begin to see the bigger story. The cross was not the end. God was at work, bringing hope, life and freedom through Jesus.

It is a story of lives being changed 2,000 years ago, and a reminder that Jesus is still changing lives today.

On this Baptism Sunday, we hear stories of people choosing to follow Jesus and take a public step of faith. Baptism points us to the freedom Jesus brings: leaving the old behind and stepping into new life with him.

The road to freedom is not about having everything worked out. It begins with meeting Jesus, listening to his voice and recognising that he is alive and at work.
