As Jesus speaks into a tense moment, he uses a simple picture of a shepherd and his sheep. While others were focused on rules, Jesus points to something different.

Life is found through him. He says, “I am the gate.” The way in, open to us. And “I am the good shepherd.”

The one who knows his sheep and lays down his life for them. Some resist what he’s saying, but others draw closer and begin to listen.

Jesus says his sheep hear his voice, they know him, and they follow him. So the question comes back to us. What voice are we listening to?
