In the fourth session of our year-long series on the Gospel of John, Life in His Name, Martin Dunkley explores John 1:35–51 where everything begins with an invitation.

John tells us that Jesus meets us where we are. Some are curious, some are searching, some are unsure. Yet his words are the same: come and see.

He sees us completely, the good and the bad, and still calls us closer. He sees what we can become, just as he did with Simon, and gives us a new beginning through his grace. It’s not about who we’ve been, but who we can be with him.

Jesus also invites us to be where he is. When the first disciples ask where he is staying, he says, come and you will see. They spend the day with him, and everything changes.

And he shows us something greater. Like Jacob’s dream of heaven touching earth, Jesus promises that those who follow him will see amazing things. Through him, heaven meets earth, hope is renewed, and lives are made new.

It all begins with an invitation. Jesus still calls us today to come, to see, and to follow.
