Helping Deaf People to reach out and touch Jesus
Sign United is a Deaf-led initiative that aims to unite a previously divided community, that of the Deaf (British Sign Language users) and hearing people. Deaf people have had to face recent trends of sign language being banned, and therefore struggled to access education, careers and even community services such as the police, hospitals, GP (doctors) and the church. Sign United aim to:
- Unite Deaf and hearing people through sign language, raising awareness and breaking down barriers
- Reach out to the community in practical ways to improve the quality of life, whilst showing Jesus in all they do
- Reach out in the church to help teach Deaf people about Jesus
Currently the ministry works together to provide weekly translations during TVCC Sunday Service, a cell group in sign language, and provides social events monthly for those wanting practice with sign language – including parents of Deaf children.
